Sermon Notes:
‘A New Thing’ Series.
God the Father SUPPLIES: wants EVERYONE to be saved.
This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.
– 1 Timothy 2:3-4 (NLT)
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9 (NLT)
In that day the heir to David’s throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world. The nations will rally to him, and the land where he lives will be a glorious place. – Isaiah 11:10 (NLT)
Justified: Made RIGHT with God. – “I AM saved.”
But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. – 1 Corinthians 6:11b (NLT)
Sanctified: Made MORE like Jesus. – “I’m BEING saved.”
And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. – 2 Corinthians 3:18b (NLT)
Glorified: Made PERFECT in glory. – “I WILL BE saved.”
You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect. – Hebrews 12:23 (NLT)
God the Son COMPLIES: came into the world to SAVE.
His name means, “The LORD SAVES.”
“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21 (NLT)
To save the LOST.
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” – Luke 19:10 (NIV)
To save even the WORST SINNER.
This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.
– 1 Timothy 1:15-16 (NLT)
God the Holy Spirit APPLIES: the saving work of CHRIST.
When you BELIEVE.
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. – Ephesians 1:13 (NIV)
You are born AGAIN.
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again… The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” – John 3:3, 8 (NIV)
You are UNITED with Christ.
Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion… – Philippians 2:1 (NIV)
You receive POWER to love and serve God.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. – Romans 15:13 (NIV)
You are given a LIVING HOPE.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. – 1 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

The DEATH of Jesus (v.23)
God’s victorious PLAN.

Completely VOLUNTARY.

SUBSTITUTIONARY.
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. – 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)
The RESURRECTION of Jesus (vv.24-33)
Death could not KEEP him.
“But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life,
for death could not keep him in its grip.” – Acts 2:24 (NLT)
Predicted centuries in ADVANCE.
“King David said this about him [quotes Psalm 16:8-11]. Dear brothers, think about this! You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us. But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath that one of David’s own descendants would sit on his throne. David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave.” – Acts 2:25-31 (NLT)

Buried in a rich man’s TOMB – Isaiah 53:9 | John 19:38-41
Every believer has power to WITNESS.
“God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.” – Acts 2:32-33 (NLT)
Living Hope Experienced
ADMIT your sins to God.
BELIEVE Jesus and what he has done for you.
CONFESS your faith in him.
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. – Romans 10:9-10 (NLT)
